THE TRUTH LIES IN THE DETAILS

THE TRUTH LIES IN THE DETAILS

We took on a listing of a San Clemente property recently in which the family has lived for the past 12 years. The wife is a highly-acclaimed designer of floral arrangements and the husband is an exquisite craftsman, although not professionally. Both are perfectionists. Dog-earing a profusion of home-design, architectural and style magazines for years, they developed a look they desired for their home and set forth to transition an otherwise unremarkable tract home into a thing of beauty. Through a combination of design talent, sheer love, impeccable craftsmanship (not to mention time and treasure), the transformation is brilliant. With the introduction of shaker cabinets, shiplap paneling, 10″ (massive) crown moldings, 8″ baseboards, encased windows, and white-washing every surface with a satin sheen, the ambiance is rich, bright, classic and a pure delight. The style, finishes and colors are timeless. Evoking a vintage cottage on Martha’s Vineyard where the family of a hedge-fund manager “summers,” this San Clemente home is accessible to us 99 percenters.

By spending time in this property and admiring the many intricate cuts in the woodwork, the custom woven window coverings, floating shelves and legless bench at the family table, one realizes just how much thought, talent and work was required to create this end result. It becomes apparent that only the details can tell the true story.
