WHALE OF A TIME IN DANA POINT HARBOR

WHALE OF A TIME IN DANA POINT HARBOR

Today marked the tail-end of Dana Point’s Festival of Whales during which the the City promised “two fun-filled weekends” and, from my point-of-view, they delivered a whale of show. We went to Baby Beach on Sunday and rocked out to the fun tunes of the Tricia Freeman Band afloat on a stage in the Harbor. Low tide provided the best dance floor imaginable with the hard flat sand perfect for barefoot boogying. Tricia Freeman was the perfect band for the occasion with her powerful renditions of Joplin, Etheridge and 70’s rock. Folks of all ages were swinging and grooving to the music with the Pacific Ocean, Dana Point Harbor, Ocean Institute and tall ships as a backdrop. There was one couple who never sat down the entire time. I guess they were about in their mid 70s and danced to every song. Their dancing was so good, we were mesmerized watching them. The male also seemed to know the words to every 60s and 70s song they played, as he lip synched every tune. Come on, you’ve got to admit it sounds awesome.

Living along the coast in South Orange County affords us so many incredible venues, events and opportunities, it’s impossible to keep up with it all. To paraphrase a popular saying, if you’re lucky enough to live in Laguna Beach, San Clemente, Dana Point or Newport Beach, you’re lucky enough.
